Recently, thanks to the film adaptation, there has been a lot of talk about Mr. Kleks and his Academy. Some said it was "our thing", others said it was not. Regardless, this book influenced the imagination of entire generations of young Poles. It is undoubtedly a strict canon of our Polish children's literature, and perhaps an export product in the future. Who knows.
Due to the above, many people asked when the first Kleks would be available again. And he just showed up. Perfectly illustrated by the king of children's illustrations of the Polish People's Republic, Jan Marcin Szancer, who, like Kleks, influenced children's imagination and had a huge impact on Polish art. But Szancer is not the main character of the post today.
The hero is the elaborate, decorative leather cover of the book. Binding with embossing, gold-plating and hand-painted details. Endpapers made of hand-marbled paper and gilded trimmings complete the whole.
We love to hold such wonders in our hands, all you have to do is look :)
