With this entry, we begin a series of posts presenting old bookbinding masters and selected examples of their works, i.e. beautiful art books, hand-bound in leather. Thanks to such unique objects, the craft has grown to the rank of art, so we say artistic bookbinding.

We want such exclusive books to be found in selected home libraries or office libraries, enjoying their presence by subsequent generations of bibliophiles and book collectors, or to serve as an unrefined idea for a book gift for a loved one.

Nevertheless, due to the monetary and artistic value, this unique set of books was also included in the "best" section of our offer.

"The scientific activity of K. Moszyński included not only the ethnography of the Slavs, but also ethnology and theory of culture as well as the methodology of ethnographic research. Undoubtedly, his most important work is the monumental work Culture of the Slavs. It was the first synthetic study of the folk culture of a large ethnic group in Europe. The first volume is devoted to is material culture, and volume two deals with spiritual culture."

"The folk culture of the Slavs - a monumental work by Kazimierz Moszyński published in Krakow in 1929-1939 (second edition in Warsaw, 1967-1968, edited by Jadwiga Klimaszewska). The work was the first synthetic study of the folk culture of a large ethnic group in Europe, and its publication put forward ethnography Polish to a leading position in European Slavic studies.The work consists of two volumes: the first one - entitled Material Culture - is devoted to, among others, the economy, clothing, weapons, communication, food storage), in the second volume (part 1 and 2), entitled Spiritual Culture, covers topics such as knowledge, cult, beliefs, magic, divination, visual arts, music, onomastics and symbolism, among others. The author relied on extensive, scattered literature and thorough field research he conducted in Poland in Belarus, Polesie and Ukraine.

The work consists of over 2,300 pages of print, contains engravings of almost 2,500 objects, mostly made by the author himself, as well as maps and sheet music.
