What will we get when we juxtapose the works of two outstanding artists?
George Orwell, actually Eric Arthur Blair (born June 25, 1903, died January 21, 1950) - British writer and publicist, participant in the Spanish Civil War. A staunch critic of totalitarian systems, a supporter of democratic socialism.
Often regarded as the best chronicler of English culture of the twentieth century. The author exerted a significant influence on contemporary culture. The adjective "Orwellian" defines situations in which the system threatens the freedom of an individual or entire societies, especially in the field of privacy.
Phrases such as "Big Brother is watching" and "All animals are equal, but some are more equal" and concepts such as "new-speak", "thought police", "doublethink" "("doublethink") and "thoughtcrime" ("thoughtcrime") are used in common parlance.
His most famous works are the anti-utopian novel 1984 and Animal Farm.
Ivan Kulik (born 1959, Leshchilka near Cherkasy). Drawing has been his passion since childhood - he is a graduate of the Painting Department of the Pedagogical University in Dniepropetrovsk. He also graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Kharkiv. Since 1990 he has been working and living in Poland.
A specific Polish contribution to the work of Iwan Kulik is the figure of Stańczyk, to whom he devoted a great part of his paintings.
Since 2001, the artist has also been creating gouaches thematically related to outstanding literary works. The first song that inspired him was "The Master and Margarita". About 700 gouaches were created in this cycle, of which 125 were used in the gallery's publications, and about 90 in the beautiful edition of The Master and Margarita (publishing house MUZA, ed. I 2003, ed. II 2004). In the years 2003-2004, another series was created: Animal Farm, which decorates the work of Orwell that we are offering.
