Today we present you an unique book binding of the trilogy "The Lord of the Rings" by Tolkien. It is an impressive, stitched book bound in natural leather on a wooden board. Inspiration for the binding of this book are 16th-century books bound in Cracow bookbinding workshops. In the Renaissance, the motifs of decorating referred to contemporary religious and cultural trends, such as humanism, the renaissance and the reformation, so there was the use of images of state and religious leaders in the decoration of luminaries. A decorative motif in the mirror field was a common decoration, often with a multiplication of the stamping. And so in the mirrors of our frame we find images with the likeness of magicians: Gandalf and Saruman, cruel Sauron and beautiful Galadriel. The good eye will find a lot of similar images to the kings of Poland, for example, the prototype for Galadriel is the queen of Bona, and Sauron is the king of Stefan Batory. The ornamentation was inspired by the so-called royal decoration (with images of kings).
The question is: Why do not we find hobbits, Aragorn, Legolas, or other characters from the fellowship of the ring? While Aragorn's character leaves some doubt, he was thirty-ninth straight in the line of Isildur's descendant, but despite being a contender to the Gondor throne, blood of three races: humans, elves and masters flowed in his veins. Frodo Baggins' roots and others leave no doubt. They are important personalities from the point of view of the plot and axis of the novel, but without royal or princely connotations, they are ordinary heroes. Their place is important, is on the pages of the novel, but it is in vain to look for them next to the royal figures. So why do we find Saruman and Gandalf? Witches are not here by chance. Not without reason their heads are surrounded by halo. Their resemblance to the images of the saints is striking because they are magical powers.
This is obviously our own vision of this setting. The whole was hand painted and looks antique. On the spine there are true binds. The luminaire was supposed to resemble, and-hopefully-resembles, a renaissance picture frame with royal images. We have wanted its style to capture both the aesthetics and the spirit of the epoch, along with its benevolence and vices. At that time, there was no place for pietism and political correctness, the figures of the rulers and saints were engraved on the frames. This is also the world of Middle-earth, this place is beautiful and dark at the same time, so offended or considered that we overlooked something, kindly please forgive.
The total edition of this edition of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy was scheduled for 500 numbered copies.
Each copy was accompanied by a seal of the Sobieski Antique Bookshop and a manually typed copy number.
Due to the time consuming process of manufacturing such a luminaire, the waiting time for implementation can be 4-8 weeks.
Welcome.
