First published in Great Britain in 1937, the novel gained immense worldwide popularity. The first Polish translation (recognized as canonical) by Maria Skibniewska, creator of the word "krasnolud [dwarf]". Illustrations by Jan Młodozeniec, one of the most outstanding Polish graphic artists, co-founder of the Polish School of Posters, valued and awarded in Poland and around the world.
