Very rare!
This is one of those books that shook the world. Based on many years of research, and referring also to the findings of other scholars, Darwin presented a theory according to which the ancestor of the human race is nothing less than the ape. Written in the first person and filled with personal reflections and remarks, the work of the English scholar is not iconoclastic in character, and certainly not atheistic, as some circles claimed. The evolutionary determinism and the picture of the ruthless struggle for existence contained in this treatise, published in 1871, were indeed later used by more than one leader of totalitarian states—especially Adolf Hitler—to justify criminal actions. Darwin, however, was above all a scientist who, using the research tools available to a nineteenth-century naturalist, formulated a number of conclusions of a revolutionary nature, just as Nicolaus Copernicus was a revolutionary when he announced his heliocentric theory.
