One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a 1962 novel by Ken Kesey about enslavement and the longing for freedom.
Kesey depicts electroconvulsive therapy and lobotomy in the book. Originally performed as a stage play, the film adaptation of the novel of the same name, directed by Miloš Forman, premiered in 1975. In 2005, the American weekly "Time" listed One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest among the 100 best English-language novels.
