Another first edition of the cult novel by the classic of the SF genre, Stanisław Lem, who this time described the first interstellar expedition to the Alpha Centauri system. The action takes place in the future about 1000 years away. Looking at the Author's work and his great intuition for predicting future events, who knows what will happen to us in those 1000 years.
Extensive excerpts from the novel had previously been printed in installments in the Przekrój magazine in 1953-1954, with illustrations by Jerzy Skarżyński, never republished.
The theme of the novel concerns the difficulties with mentally enduring the hardships of space travel and attempts to communicate with an alien civilization.
