Superexlibris (Latin super - higher, ex libris - from books) - a special form of a bookplate, a book's proprietary mark, which is part of the bookbinding decoration.
Superexlibrises appeared earlier than the actual bookplates, pasted on separate pages on the inside of the cover, as early as the 14th century. They were usually made using the embossing technique, i.e. impressions on the skin, often with gilding, and presented heraldic motifs or initials, most often placed centrally in the field of the binding , less often on the back. They are most often used on bibliophilic leather bindings, but sometimes also on linen and paper ones.
Today we are going to present a book [although here one could argue whether it is actually a book] unique, because it is flagged with the emblem of the Polish king Stanisław Leszczyński:
SUPEREXIBRIS OF THE POLISH KING STANISŁAW LESZCZYNSKI
Stanisław Bogusław Leszczynski of the Wieniawa coat of arms (born October 20, 1677 in Lviv, died February 23, 1766 in Lunéville) - king of Poland in the years 1705–1709 and 1733–1736 as Stanisław I Leszczyński, prince of Lorraine and Bar in the years 1738–1766, Freemason .
