OBURACZ
Warsaw 1926, Published by [Wydawca/ Publisher], pp. 56, [2]; format 16x23,5 cm
Oburacz by Julian Przybos (1901–1970) is one of the most important poetry collections of the Polish interwar avant-garde. Published in 1926, the volume exemplifies an innovative approach to poetic form and typography in Polish literature.
The typographic layout is highly expressive, with each letter on the cover set in a different typeface, creating a dynamic avant-garde composition. The dark cream cover is adorned with letters in black and brick-red, each taken from separate templates, giving the composition visual rhythm and movement. The cover design was created by Wladyslaw Strzeminski, who at this time moved from a Futurist-Dadaist style toward a more functional and disciplined artistic approach.
The collection contains short, expressive poems on corporeal, existential, and everyday themes, fitting firmly within the canon of avant-garde literature. The arrangement of the poems and the typography are an integral part of Przybos’s artistic expression.
Very rare — Oburacz by Julian Przybos has appeared only a few times on the antiquarian market over the past half-century, highlighting its exceptional collectible value and status as an avant-garde work in Polish literature.
