ohn Stuart Mill (born May 20, 1806, died May 7, 1873) was an English philosopher, economist, politician, and civil servant. One of the most influential thinkers in the history of classical liberalism, he made extensive contributions to social theory, political theory, and political economy. Called "the most influential English-language philosopher of the 19th century" by the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, he understood liberty as a justification of individual freedom in opposition to unrestricted state and social control.
Mill was a classical liberal and social reformer. His economics is a mature formulation of the classical position, and at the same time he initiated a new period in the development of economic thought. His work "Principles of Political Economy with Some of Their Applications to Social Philosophy" was written in less than two years, first published in 1848, and was a foundational work in the field of economics. In this book, he set himself the goal of rescuing the content of Ricardo's Principles from critics. He distinguished 3 factors of production: land, labor, and capital. The activity of factors of production is based on the following general laws. These are:
Malthus's law of population
Turgot's law of changing productivity of land
Senior's law of increasing productivity of industry.
This work was placed on the index librorum prohibitorum by a decree of 1856.
