Autumn is fast approaching, September 1 is already behind us. In addition to the anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, this day is inextricably associated with the first bell and return to school. Especially for those who have school-age children, but not only, because the adventure with school was a part of each of us :-)
It would seem that the primer is a relatively new book, while the first Polish books for learning to read and write come from the Renaissance. The oldest known Polish elementaries are: "Polish books are great for learning Polish ..." published by Hieronim Wietor in Krakow in 1539 and "Nauka brief towards reading Polish writing", printed in Królewiec around 1570. One of the first The publication that can be considered with the primer in Polish was also "For children learning to read Polish writing" published in Vilnius in 1633.
The most famous book for learning the Polish language is undoubtedly Marian Falski's Primer. Interestingly, it is the most frequently reissued and the longest-published textbook of this type in the world. The first edition appeared in 1910 under the title: "Learning to read and write for children" with illustrations by Jan Rembowski. Hard to get today.
During the interwar period, it was updated and changed several times. A story primer, for adult illiterates.
The first post-war edition was published in 1949 with illustrations by Jan Samuel Miklaszewski and still did not resemble the primer we still remember today. It was a small book, in a soft brochure cover, with black and white illustrations and 6 pcs. supplement in the form of additional exercises. Interestingly, this censored edition included elements of the communist ideology that was obligatory at that time.
This is undoubtedly the most characteristic sentence from Falski's primer.
The most famous edition of the primer comes from 1957-1973, the version from 1971 with illustrations by Jerzy Karolak is reprinted today.
Like the 1974 edition with more modern illustrations by Janusz Grabieński.
The generation of the 70's and 80's will surely remember the primers of the Przyłubski couple "Litery. Nauka czytania".
As you can see, Falski's "Primer" is a book not only for children, but a book that is still relevant, timeless and connecting entire generations of Poles.
