Illustrations and cover: Studio Levitt and Him – founded in 1933 by Polish graphic artists Jan Lewitt (1907-1991) and Jerzy Him (1900-1981), operating in London from 1937.
The first work that brought the group success was a 1934 graphic setting of three poems by Julian Tuwim: "Locomotive," "Turning Riding RADIO," and "Bird Radio." This setting was reprinted several times and also appeared in translation.
In 1937, Lewitt and Him were invited to London, where the Lund Humphreys Gallery organized an exhibition devoted to their work. Encouraged by the exhibition's success, the artists decided to remain in Great Britain. During World War II, the artists created numerous posters and other publications supporting the British war effort and also collaborated with the Polish government in exile.
