Walter Scott (born August 15, 1771, in Edinburgh; died September 21, 1832, in Abbotsford) was a Scottish barrister, novelist, and poet. He was interested in Scottish folklore and history. He drew on these themes in his work and pioneered the interest in folk culture and art in England, a characteristic of the Romantic period.
