The year of the hunter - Czeslaw Milosz's diary, published in 1990 by the Literary Institute in Paris as the 462 volume of the "Kultura" Library.
The diary documents the events of one year of the writer's life, from August 1, 1987 to July 30, 1988. The title was taken by the author from the work of Włodzimierz Korsak's Year of the Hunter (1886–1973). It can also be understood metaphorically. In the introduction, Miłosz writes: "My game was the entire visible world and I devoted my life to trying to capture it with words or to hit it with words." In a footnote years later, he states that "The Year of the Hunter" is "an experimental journal, limited to one year, which, however, eluded the rules of this literary genre, filling itself more and more with names recalled from memory. The book in its second part turns into a kind of an environmental novel, into a series of portraits of my contemporaries, writers and people of theater ”. The author mentions, inter alia, Ksawery Pruszyński, Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz, Józef Mackiewicz, Karol Ludwik Koniński and Leon Schiller.
