Blue canvas, embossed and gilded on the face and back, with the title of the work in the center, surrounded by rich ornaments. Inside, between ca. 3 decorative end papers.

A well-preserved example of an editor's template (especially due to its editions and end papers) of one of the most beautiful editions of a masterpiece of Polish poetry.

Another known copy of the publishing pattern book of this work, sold in December 2010 in the "Okna Sztuki" Auction House, included 5 end-papers and 24 plates, similar to a part of the book edition ["Wyd. jubilee with a portrait of the poet and 24 illustrations of a drawing by E. M. Andriolli "- read the subtitle].

The offered copy contains 25 tables of illustrations.

The most beautiful, illustrated edition was published thanks to the initiative of the Lviv bookseller Herman Altenberg, who in 1879 commissioned E. M. Andriolli illustrations for the poem by A. Mickiewicz. The artist made 58 drawings on boxwood planks, 25 of which were to adorn the entire pages, and the rest to the text. 55 of them were engraved in the woodcut by the xylograph by Andrzej Zajkowski, the rest by Ch. Baude, F. Tegetmayer, and one anonymous engraver. The full-page compositions were printed on separate cardboard on a dark yellow tint (cf. G. Socha, "Andriolli and the development of woodcut - in Poland", Wr. 1988, p. 168). Cf. Banach "Polish Illustrated Book 1800-1900" pp. 453, item 788.
